Field Trips
To confirm, PMR is on Friday June 16th.

Adults will be there to supervise until we board the boat. Students must be picked up at 2:30 pm at the Bell Harbor pier. A map of where Bell Harbor Pier 66 is located and more information about parking options is here: http://marinescienceafloat.org/where-to-go-day-of-trip . If you need help coordinating transportation please contact our wonderful room parents:

For PMR please make sure you student wears comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and gear for being on a boat; bring a packed lunch/water bottle. Activities will be both indoors (in cabin) and outdoors (on deck). Applied sunscreen is a great idea too.

Promotion
Promotion is June 22nd at 10am. We will be walking to Meridian Park afterwards for a picnic in the park. This is a change from previous newsletters.

 Math
We finished our geometry unit last week with a unit test. That was handed back today and some students did struggle keeping track of all the parts of the problem. The thing I noticed most was students trying to solve all parts in their head. Remind them, they must show their work.

We started the unit on statistics and probability. One of my favorite subjects. We looked at compound events and eventually we will be doing our own surveys.

Science
This week we looked at dilution and PH. Trying to figure out if we need to worry about either when cleaning the acme wastewater. We had fun testing many household chemicals and one conclusion that we came up with was that Coke is one of the most dangerous solutions in the house.

Dates to Remember:
Field Day at Wallingford Park, June 21st.
5th grade Promotion 10 a.m. in the Auditorium and Green Lake Fun Day, June 22nd

Mr. D, will be sending out requests for help for Field Day on June 21st.

Weekly blog update

Alright guys, it's Mark and I'm back with another blog update. so this week we did some pretty cool stuff actually, like measuring the acidity of household objects. One of the most base like things measuring in at 10/12 ph was a powder used for cleaning called comet. We had to mix it with water because it was solid and not liquid. The most acidic was coke, clocking in at 3 ph. We had a ton of other stuff like apple conditioner, Gatorade, bleach, and even mouthwash! We also tested with KOH (Potassium chloride) and HCI (Hydro chloric acid). We mixed them in this weird orange thing called universal indicator. It was all orange and the bottle was all nasty looking. Besides that, cell models were due today and most everyone is done. We also got to dip our colonial newspaper article in tea and crumple it so that it looked ancient. We also have the school's concert on Monday. Don't miss it! we've got the brass and woodwind playing Mojo and Journey to the Stars, and the strings playing Sourwood Mountain and Pictures at an Exhibition. We also had our friends Jack and Sophie
do they're colonial presentation which had a super expensive, high tech, 5$ time machine built in Minecraft which brought us to colonial Virginia. That's all we've got to write about this week. Thanks for reading, and I'll update this next Friday.                                                      -Mark

Friday, May 12, 2017

Hey guys, it's Mark again, and we're doing our weekly blog update! Now, last week we couldn't post because we had to work on our projects. So I'll be telling about things in the last two weeks. On Thursday this week we got to see what dissolved in water and alcohol and what didn't. one of the, I think it was iron chloride, if not it was iron sulfate, smelled sickly sweet and looked like a tiny chunk of poop! This is no joke that' actually what it looked like! We also did some other stuff like sugar and copper sulfate. Weirdest of all, there was a chemical called Neroline Yara Yara! It was so weird, like something Merasmus from TF2 would say, or something from a Crash Bandicoot game. None of them really dissolved that much, some did over time though. Also, over the course of this week, some people have been presenting their projects in social studies, in things like Minecraft and OBS. Shout out to Kevin for having a hilarious video! same to you Zoe and Lucy over on Zulu news! Lots of other cool things including a collage of Delaware by Soli and Michelle, and a Minecraft world by Elle and yours truly, and a monopoly game by Jude and Scarlett. Sorry to any names that got missed out, but all of the projects were cool! Last week there wasn't much, some project and article work, along with some surface area and volume lessons. Also, from now on, there might be a few student made items that they requested to be put into the blog. So be ready for those! Also, lots of scale models are done, including a cubee sans by me, a giant magic card by Kyle, a gaming computer by rowan, and a big bridge without a name on or by it. If you know who made this, congratulate them! If you made it, then great job! Actually we have two field trips incoming, they are the living computer museum on June 8'th, and a field trip on a boat where we get to go out and see at the bottom of the ocean from a camera and get to see samples of it! We have WAY over enough chaperones for that one! maybe some could go to the computer museum too... anyway, That'll wrap up the blog on this post. Hope you guys have a great mothers day! Bye!
